Fall in love

since I was a little girl my mom told me I was an autumn or fall complexion. I learned I looked best in earthy tones. I was called a pumpkin head and carrot top. But, I surprisingly liked the names and embraced my key colors.

So, I guess this is part of the reason I love fall so much. maybe I look at a pumpkin like it’s my long lost sister? I just feel more at home and grounded this time of year.

It’s too bad there are no leaves changing in southern California, but I did get to experience a “real” fall last year in Maryland ?

I’m writing all this to make myself feel better about the enthusiasm with which I bought this new fall bowl. I love it!

Before  breakfast I had the best 6 mile run. I meant to take it easy for another few days since I’m still coming back from the marathon, but I felt so good today!

6 miles with 8:44 average pace

Mile 1: 8:37 (this is where I realize I’m going to make it a good run)

Mile 2: 8:49

Mile 3: 9:08 hill

Mile 4: 8:22

Mile 5: 8:15

Mile 6: 9:14 amazing down

Breakfast is brought to you in part by Stoneyfield who sent me a few coupons for some yogurt ages ago that I forgot about until yesterday. Camiseta Sanfrecce Hiroshima I thought about getting the plain, but then I thought that was a bad idea and went with Vanilla. good decision.

 

In the bowl: warm pumpkin, Vanilla Oikos, Kashi good pals cereal, chia seeds and almond butter. I opened a new jar of AB told which meant extra time stirring and eating it to get it “just right”. anyone else do that?

8.5 hours later

I feel so much better after 8 1/2 hours of sleep! I woke up this morning and jumped out of bed. I was going to skip a run today in favor of some strength training, but I had way too much energy. I ended up running 4.5 miles and felt great the whole time! It should have been all that cereal carb-loading I did in the afternoon. Oops!

Note: I wasn’t in love with the love crunch granola. It’s good, but not great. However, I am in very crazy love with Cinnamon Sweets and to be sure it isn’t a fluke, ate 3 bowls yesterday. plus numerous handfuls. It’s better than I can describe.

The race is part of the RunDisney race series, but this one is special for a few reasons:

It starts at 10PM

After the race, in addition to the normal snack box you are handed white wine (or beer).

The race coincides with the Food festival at Epcot so runners and spectators can follow the race a excursion of food from around the world.

You get to run through the Walt Disney world Parks at night.

The race has a a lot more ‘fun, take pleasure in it!” kind of atmosphere than a lot of other half marathons with a ‘get outta my way’ feel.

One of the best things about Disneyworld and Disneyland races is that the majority of runners are there to have fun and take pleasure in the race. That indicates a lot of people dress up. There are also a lot of run/walkers that are trying long distance running for the first time. I love when running welcomes everyone to come play!

I only did one thing in training for the white wine and Dine half Marathon:

12 weeks of Internet research to find a costume to run in.

I finally settled on Jesse from toy story and I’m so happy I went with her. It was a complete hit! The entire race people were yelling “GO JESSE!!!!!!” or “GOOD job JESSES!!!!”

It made me feel so Camiseta Selección de fútbol de Polonia good. So, I ran a lot faster than I planned.

Before the race I met a lot of readers! This was exciting because there are so lots of people I love when people I know say ‘hello!’, it makes it feel like it’s a small world

Betsy ran her first half marathon at white wine and Dine!

I started the race with my friends, but they stopped at the Bear picture line and I wanted to skip that one and we never found each other after that.

SkinnyRunner, Run Gia, Sarah fit and Race pace Jess were all in on the fun.

I missed running with Meals and Miles , but we didn’t start together and never found each other during the race. She’s my OG FL pal and we really need to hit up another Triple D when I come out next time – Meghann, you in?

The one negative about this race: There are thousands of runners that have to go to the bathroom. This is standard, but the race is 67% women and that normally makes pee stops take a bit longer. So the porta lines were very very long and not moving quickly.

Time to line up at the start!

Disney white wine and Dine half Marathon Recap

The course starts near ESPN large world of sports and goes to animal Kingdom, MGM and Epcot studios. It’s very amazing to run in the dark with the lights and decorations and music pumping.

But considering that it is dark you can’t take pleasure in all the sights that you might see during the day. Cons – it’s dark and you can’t see all the rides and attractions very clear. Pros – Disney at night is pretty and romantical.

It is a flat, fast course. However, considering that it’s at night there are challenges to running fast – fuel, rest. plus the majority of people run this for fun so if you are in a later corral you may be dodging walkers.

Disney races have character stops where you can take a picture with their characters. They have a professional photographer, but you can also hand your cam to a Disney cast member and they’ll take it with yours.

I have one mission for this race: Take a picture with my partner Woody. Boom.

My favorite part of the course is probably the crazy Christmas lights street from the Osborne family light spectacle.

I know it’s cheesy, but running around Disney is magical. When we turned the corner and saw this I had to stop and take a picture. I am a big Disney fan and love all the touches and surprises they incorporate into races and theme parks.

The end near Epcot is awesome! The crowds are incredibly loud. The lights are exciting. It was a terrific finish line!

I brought my Garmin this time (‘member I forgot it last weekend at NYCM). but I didn’t wear it to the race because I don’t know how to turn on the light (srsly) and I figured I’d be stopping for pictures. but I still had a terrific time – 1:53:30.

Once I crossed I got my medal, food box and a glass of wine! Yes.

I ‘ran’ into Kristin from StuftMama and Kelly from According to Kelly at the finish too. Kelly is the girl behind sparkle athletic and helped me with my costume! I’ll share a lot more on that later.

After the race it was time for the after party. first we hit up the NB party and then walked around Epcot tasting the world. My phone died so no pics. The only thing to note was the warm chocolate pudding, but it didn’t change my life. It was from Ireland.

Overall: Blast in a glass race! It’s a lot more of a fun fun race thencompetitive pr race – not because of the course, but because of everything: the people, characters, location, night time and post-race party.

I had SO much FUN. I would do it again for sure.

Question: If you had to eat one type of food for the rest of your life, what would it be?

I’d pick Eggaly or Watermeland where ever it’s fine to eat eggs Camiseta Liverpool FC and watermelon all darn day.

So, I’m going to do something great with all my running medals as well as donate them to Medals for Mettle. It’s a non-profit that collects half marathon, full marathon as well as triathlon medals as well as provides them to kids as well as adults with severe health and wellness issues.

But I’ll keep a few incredibly special ones. This is all type of a unexpected believed so I don’t understand precisely which ones I’ll keep yet – however I do share three of my favorites in the video… as well as share my preferred running souvenir.

The Race Is half full

This morning I woke up and had to talk myself into tackling a run. I had plans for coffee and had to get out the door if I wanted to get 10 miles done. speaking of… a few weeks ago I said that I was going to try and go for the full marathon at surf City. But, after much thought I’ve decided to pull back and only do the half.

If I would have wanted to do the full I would have needed to do 18 miles today, but only would have had one week of taper before the race. I am adamant about enough taper and rest before a big race, so this was already stressing me out. I had been on the fence about this since I realized that. Then, last weekend’s half made me realize that I want to run a full marathon, but I want to give it the training it deserves so I can be confident.

I’m definitely bummed about this – especially because surf City was my first full marathon and I wanted to return to the scene of the crime and PR. But, I am not physically or mentally ready and I need a break.

I was waking up for my long beach training runs excited, but lately I’ve been dreading them and I don’t want it to be like that. I’m just running the half for fun now (since it’s already paid for), so that’s that.

After my slow run, I had 3 minutes to make and eat breakfast. I decided on a yogurt mess in a cantaloupe bowl.

Then, I was off to meet Kaitlin for coffee! She lives in LA, but has a hair dresser close to me so we worked it out to kill birds and stones and put them in a bush instead of our hands… You get it.

We walked around downtown Orange and checked out a few antique stores and a super cute kitschy random store where I wanted to buy a ton of stuff I don’t need.

Okay, I did get this meal planner pad. Each page helps plan out a week of dinners!
It’s always fun to hang out with blog friends! thanks for meeting up Kaitlin

On the way home I had to pick up some inner tubes for our bikes. The weather is so nice Ben and I want to get back to riding! I didn’t pick up this glide, hope I don’t regret it later.

Then, I attacked lunch. I was suddenly starving and quickly heated up the bread and pizza from last night.

And ate it with my leftover salad topped with some of Ben’s eggs.

Question: have you ever dropped out of a race or dropped to a shorter distance?

This was definitely a hard decision for me to make and I had been going back and forth about it for weeks now. I think know I can finish the full marathon, but I don’t want it to be a march to my death. I know I’ll be sad on race day, but I think this is the smarter choice (just not the most exciting or challenging one).

The good news is, I Camiseta Leeds United have already decided on a spring marathon that will give me enough time to train. So I have something to look forward to, train for and be excited about!!!

Then, I went to the goodwill to get some throw away gear for before the ING NY Marathon. The race is distinct in that the begin is quite late – I begin after 10am and it’s a great deal chillier there than it is in SoCal.

So, runners layer up and then toss those layers before the gun fires to GO! (The clothes are contributed to regional charities so it’s all good.)

I desired a snuggie per SR’s suggestion, but there was none to be found. I did see this amazing tee shirts from Mills college though…

Then, I stopped at the store on the method house and grabbed a few things to make a special treat for Ben – pigs Camiseta Inter Milan in a blanket! I randomly got the concept from a commercial this week (I’m a sucker for marketing).

Being an interracial couple and all our mom’s cooked up extremely different foods for our fams. So, after 3 years of chorizo burritos he was extremely amazed to find house to this meal!

Those kosher hot dogs are only 45 calories each. Surprising, right? I served them up with roasted brussel sprouts. Random, but good.

Halloween candy has been on my mind and if you’re going to do it – do it right…

Back to my pre-race gear…

French Fries as well as Tums

Ben as well as I headed to my mom’s to pick up Matt as well as have some fun yesterday. We stopped at a burger joint on the method there to get lunch. Ben got a burger as well as I ate many of our large purchase of fries. When I got to my mom’s I made a salad to choose my french fry primary course.

And discovered chocolate covered pretzels as dessert. This was certainly not necessary, however I they were dark chocolate covered – c’mon, what did you expect?!

But, gorging myself on french fries shown poor for my tummy as well as I complied with lunch with a large amount of knock-off Tums. told ya I ate a great deal A great deal of fries.

Ben, Matt as well as I went to the open home at the Jet Propulsion lab in Pasadena.

This is where NASA develops the Mars Rover as well as a ton of other great stuff!

Matt (who’s 10) as well as Ben (who’s a Mechanical engineer for aircraft) were in area information heaven ?

It was interesting, however I was many amazed with this sign…

After the open home we dropped off Matt as well as satisfied up with my good friend Susan to see Bridesmaids.

I chosen up a Sunday paper as well as iced coffee to delight in with breakfast.

I believe I broke my point as well as shoot (dropped it a few days back as well as it worked best after, however now won’t respond). So, I may have to get a new one. Boo. Ben as well as I are headed to church as well as then tasks stuff.

How to Make Oatmeal with Egg Whites

Hello!! welcome to the weekend! Are you going to unwind like vegas or party like someone who is in Las Vegas?

This morning I had oatmeal with egg whites whipped in for breakfast.

I posted this picture on instagram and got some requests for the ‘recipe’. I feel like it’s not really a recipe but here is how I do it.

Oatmeal with Egg Whites Recipe

Ingredients:

2 packets of oatmeal

1/2 c egg whites

dash of milk

Mix-ins: cinnamon, sweetener, dash salt, honey, nut butter

Directions:

Cook oatmeal to package directions in microwave. (Try to keep it on the thicker side.)

Add egg whites , stir and cook for 30 seconds. stir in sweetener and cinnamon. cook for another 30 seconds.

Add a dash of milk if it looks too thick. add all the toppings you have (like everything except pickles count on me). Enjoy!

Microwaves are different so keep an eye on it to avoid it overflowing. cook much more or less to your preference.

Pro tip: use a microwave safe dish and don’t slam it down in a hungry rush. I have no idea why this bowl broke at my first attempt this morning because I’ve used it before. So, I am pretty sure it was microwave safe. It might have had a small crack that I made worse?

I went to pick it up and it fell apart?!?! Like, seriously fell Camiseta Selección de fútbol de Serbia apart and broke!?!

In other fun news… I went to Disneyland with my little brother today! He is a Disneyland expert so a post with much more info is coming soon.

It was very hot so I brought a lot of water and spiked it with a packet of Spark.
