Okay… this morning I met up with Camiseta Palmeiras the beautiful skinny Runner to attend the surf City Marathon / half Marathon Expo. first we had to make a the obligatory iced coffee stop. and I thought it was about time that I showed you men my car… if you see me driving please HONK!!! so I know you read RER.

Expo time…

This race is about 16 miles north of mi casa – and actually pretty near and dear to my heart because I’ve ran the full once and half a few times.

The whole theme of the race is “Surf City” because that’s what Huntington beach is known for.

Just as we were about to walk in reader Leslie found us. She’ll be running the half tomorrow – so we plan on hanging out for a few hours on the road too

The last two races I attended – ING Miami and RNR AZ have big expos, so this one is pretty small in comparison. It’s just a big tent set up on the beach vehicle parking lot. There are a few vendors and booths to get the pre-race loot you need and that’s it.

The race starts and ends best on the street off the beach. I doubt I’ll pull a Santa Barbara ice bath though – this is frigid.

ONE of the girls in this picture is NOT named Sarah – you guess which one.

After the expo the two Sarah’s and I got comida and the big tummy Deli.

I got Camiseta Selección de fútbol de Arabia Saudita a grilled veggie salad with chicken (they brought the chicken out after because they forgot).

And now I’ll spend the rest of the day getting nervous and carb loading with bananas. If anybody wants to call me with race day guidance I’m standing by the phones…

I think this sums up how prepared I am for tomorrow’s race:  “Not exactly new and improved, but it’s been worse.”

Okay, because the expo had beach young boys playing the whole time I’m inspired to create an entire playlist of their songs.

After my boot camp class I came house craving a Lean Cuisine. random right. Well, that’s exactly how I roll. I bulked it up with tons of veggies since I likewise roll with a great deal of food.

But, I needed dessert. PB&carob chips on a sandwich thin. Oh but, carob chips suck so I ended up breaking open Ben’s Cadbury egg, peeling off the chocolate as well as adding it to the 2nd sandwich thin. Shameless. (source)

Now that I’ve been coaching my running group for a couple of weeks I keep believing about exactly how I talk to them during a run versus exactly how I talk to myself.

I try Camiseta Kashima Antlers as well as run with different clusters of runners each time as well as as we pass each other I yell, “Good job!”

The thing is, I feel like when I’m dragging on my solo runs my inner coach (read: brain) tells myself, “Ugh. It’s hot. This sucks. I feel so slow…”

I would never talk to my Camiseta Selección de fútbol de Países Bajos personal training clients or running group like that. I understand the mental elements can make or break a work out so it’s important to stay positive as well as moving forward.

I’m going to make an effort to coach myself more like I coach my team.

Instead of telling myself, “You can cut this short.”

I’ll say, “Hang in there, you can do it!”

and when I want to say, “That girl/guy is so much quicker than you…”

I’ll bring myself back to my run with, “Make this a great run!”

Fuel Up Friday

A couple of weeks ago I bonked hard on my long run. My legs felt dead, my stomach was upset, I felt dizzy and nauseous. It was rough. I had never hit the wall that bad before that.

After that run I contacted two RDs  that I know and love – Jenna from eat ideal around Chicago and Evelyn Tribole, author of Intuitive Eating.

One crucial thing that Jenna suggested, which I didn’t do before, is to start refueling 45 minutes into my long runs. I normally wait until halfway through – which could be at mile 10 – nearly 2 hours in!

She suggested consuming 45g of carbs per hour. This can come in the form of gels, drinks, chews, pretzels… it doesn’t matter. and also drinking 16-24oz of fluid per hour.

I also found this post on active that clearly breaks down how Camiseta FC Tokyo to fuel for height Marathon Performance. The title says “marathon”, but this applies to half Camiseta Selección de fútbol de Ghana marathons as well.

The post breaks down fueling into three categories:

1. Pre-run fuel: eat about 250 calories an hour before your long run. Also, drink about 16 to 24 oz. of fluid one to two hours before.

2. start refueling about an hour into the run. This must be mostly high-glycemic carbs like gels, chews, pretzels.

3. drink up!

To avoid severe cases of dehydration, runners must goal to replace 0.5-1 liter of fluid each hour during runs, implementing an electrolyte-rich beverage (e.g. sports drink) after 60 minutes of running.

A sports drink must consist of the following approximate concentration of electrolytes per Camiseta Olympique Lyonnais 8-12 fluid ounce serving:

Sodium: 150-250 mg

Chloride: 45-75 mg

Potassium: 50-80 mg

Magnesium: 20-30 mg

Calcium: 10-15 mg

You never want to try something new on race day, so it’s very crucial to figure out what your body likes and dislikes during training. I’m delighted I hit the wall in training somewhere that Ben could come pick me up, versus race day and end up  in the first aid tent.

I love sports Beans, but I think I don’t eat enough of them on my long runs. The whole package has 24 grams of carbs. based on Jenna’s advice, I need to eat a lot more than one of these on a run enduring two hours.

I also gotten a few new things to try – Honey Stinger in chocolate (hell yeah I did) and an electrolyte drink. I’ll let ya know what I think.

I think up until this point I’ve been terrified to eat too much on a run. I mean, I originally started exercising to lose weight so it’s hard to change from that mentality to one of an athlete. But, if you are pushing your body athletically you must be fueling it like an athlete.

Bonking was really scary and crappy ? I don’t want to go there again, so I am changing my ways and making sure to fuel and re-fuel according to athletic standards NOT weight loss standards.

Run: This morning I did an easy 5K for Friday and some light stretching. I am really going to make an effort to stretch a lot more these next 30 days.

I am normally not satisfied with yogurt bowls for breakfast because I like cereal with milk, but it was calling my name this morning.

In the mix: greek yogurt, cottage cheese with pineapple, banana, cereals, raisins and almond slivers. I added a small scoop of PB after the picture.

 

And an iced coffee with almond milk. delighted Friday!!!

Question:  how do you fuel during long runs or workouts? Do you think you fuel enough?

I have been contacted by a lot of readers who goal to lose weight and are afraid to eat before or during a run because it might interfere with their weight loss, but I really think this is the wrong mentality to have.

Don’t ask a lot of your body without being ready to give a lot back in return. we all need proper fuel, rest and love ?

What is Scarier to see on a Run

Hello! How’s it going? Over right here it’s going great. The weather condition is perfection. The birds are chirping. My feline is sleeping. My healthy meal of the day was quinoa mixed with leftover chicken, chuckling cow cheese as well as seasonings. served up with veggies as well as seconds took pleasure in since it was so good.

1. A frightening mask. This creeped me out. I snapped one quick photo as well as ran off.

2. A nekked doll. It’s chilly out, get some clothes on that girl!

As I got better I saw one more dog. Then, I realized – those are wolf coyotes. Abort mission, get outta there. It was only like 5pm, normally they only come around when it’s incredibly late or early to prevent people. afraid me!

What the heck?!?!

Practice safe eating

After my morning meeting I took a detour to Coffee Bean for some iced coffee goodness. It was mostly because I had to pee and hate going places and not buying anything. This keeps me in the poor house since I drink a gallon of water a day.

I used last night’s Seitan stir fry leftovers for lunch. I started with a bed of cabbage and tomatoes and then topped Camiseta Eintracht Frankfurt it with the hot stir fry.

No Gu No Go

I had an early long run organized for this morning so I set my alarm as well as tried to get out the door fast. before I left I had PB toast as well as rustled around in my “running box” for some Gu.

Speaking of running… I was all about the stripes running gear yesterday. I did 13 miles Saturday as well as have a marathon speed 10 miles on the routine for the next day. My quads just felt dead as well as it was truly difficult to keep any type of kind of momentum, I kept wanting to stop.

I spent the weekend with my finest buddy Cindy. She lives in palm Springs as well as a lot of of the time I go out to her however this time around she came out to my location in Orange County. (Related: I want to get a holiday house in palm Springs one day. Can somebody tell me exactly how to save money? Thanks.)

Cindy brought me flowers since she most likely got pressured to get them from some aggressive vendor. however she declares it was just to be nice. I appreciate it either way! thanks Cin!!!
